The difference between DREAMBOX dm800 HD and DM8000 HD

We know that The DM800 was released by Dream Media Company in middle 2008. Since DM800 was on market, it has become very popular among satellite TV fans and soon became the main HD signal receiver. And DM800′s design model was also certificated by technology and market.

The Dream Media released DM8000 series in 2009.   The DM8000 receiver has a simple but important improvement: new DM8000 has a CF card reader and a SD card reader. This improvement is small though, it brings  convenience to cunstomers. Because the high capacity SD card (SDHC) is very cheap now, users don’t have to add an IDE hard disk inside the Dreambox while they and record or delete the video on the SD cards. Recording and deleting regularly is also harmful to hard disk, but the SD card doesn’t have this problem. Also, this improvement help reduce the weight of the whole receiver.   Another useful improvement on new DM8000 is that it has a WIFI antenna inside. Users don’t have to plug in an unshielded twist pair behind Dreambox. New DM8000 now can connect with your router wirelessly. New DM8000 uses a 400MHz MIPS CPU while the old DM8000 uses an AMD/ELAN SC520 32Bit CPU which only has a clock frequency of 133MHz. There are DVI, AV and SCART three kinds of video output interfaces on old DM8000 while the new DM8000 add Separate Video and Component TV interfaces. Old DM8000 has a 256M RAM and a 32M Flash but the new DM8000′s Flash has become 128M. That will make the development of the software much easier.

The DM800 doesn’t have a SD card reader and adding one can’t be easy since its space is not enough. DM800 doesn’t have a WIFI antenna either, and it uses a 300MHz MIPS CPU. DM800 doesn’t have many interfaces as DM8000 because it is smaller. DM800 has only one smartcard reader but DM8000 has two. DM8000 has two SCT tuner slot and can plug in 3 kinds of SCT tuner. However, DM800 only has one satellite tuner slot. DM800 has two USB ports, one less than DM8000. DM8000 even has three SATA ports and that makes it can be connected to SATA hard disk and DVD drivers. DM8000 doesn’t have a telephone modem any more, but telephone modem has hardly being used nowadays.   If you want to buy a perfect and multi-functional satellite receiver, you should choose DM8000, not DM800. DM8000 is much better than DM800 in hardware and ability of expansion.
